February 24
Anita Kalçja at the BCCL Monthly Dinner at the Reval Hotel Ridzene
It is a pleasure to welcome you all tonight at the British Chamber of Commerce’s in Latvia dinner.

We are honoured to have with us tonight all three of Her Majesty’s Ambassadors to the Baltic States and the Canadian Ambassador to Latvia.

Your excellencies
Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Latvia Mr. Richard Moon,
Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Lithuania Mr. Simon Butt,
Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Estonia Mr. Peter Carter and
the Canadian Ambassador to Latvia Mr. Scott Heatherington

Dear delegates from the UK,
Dear members and guests,

in the last few months we have wittnessed disturbing events in Latvia.
Riots, very peaceful and less peaceful demonstrations and marches, calls for action, new plans, many failures, an ultimatum by the President to the Parliament. Lots of emotions and a mind-boggling amount of discussions about a variety of topics, such as justice, guilt, trust and governance, to name but a few.

Why? Because that is the way in which we, individually and collectively, define and try to cope with the crisis and the way it affects our own lives and the people around us.

Tonight, I have only one word to add – PAREX.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome our speaker—Mr. Nils Melngailis, a man trying to find solutions, a crisis manager and the chairman of the board of the Parex Bank.
