| Anita Kaleja at the BCCL Anual General Meeting |
 |
| I am very pleased to look back at another successful year with the BCCL. A year ago we started with many new board members all of which I am happy to say have been active and come with new ideas and helped in their implementation. |

| Anita Kaleja at "Britain Congratulates Latvia 1918-2008" Celebration Dinner |
 |
| On this historic occasion of Latvia’s 90th anniversary, I am glad to have the opportunity to welcome you all at the reception of the British Chamber of Commerce in Latvia. On behalf of our members, I would like to say that we feel privileged to be part of Latvia’s remarkable growth. Our lives and our businesses have been inseparably tied to the multiplicity of social, economic and political events and processes that define Latvia today. We have witnessed a well deserved international recognition of Latvian statehood. |

| With the coming Olympics it is apt, I believe, to pay some attention to a long neglected topic of national pride. Amongst us today we have officials from the Latvian Olympic committee - people who have the job to cultivate occasions for a display of national pride and to create moments in sports history that help shape our national identity. |

I should confess that it was not easy to choose a proper form of address for our distinguished audience today because we have come together to celebrate something incredibly moving, and yet, at the same time, utterly mundane. On the one hand, we can proudly share success stories of remarkable business ladies; we can learn and inspire each other as business people and human beings; we can strive to become change agents in a world where social injustice and inequality is still accepted as a norm.

| Anita Kaleja at the BCCL St. David's Day |
 |
I feel honoured to have this opportunity to say the opening speech at an event that is bound to become a tradition in Latvia.
The British Chamber of Commerce in Latvia is hosting Latvia’s first St. David’s day celebration in Riga, and in this festive spirit we are joining many others in similar celebrations in Wales as well as elsewhere in the world.

| Anita Kaleja at the BCCL Platinum and Sterling Breakfast with the Economist |
 |
| In 1921, a great book was published by arguably the greatest economist of the 20th century, John Maynard Keynes. A Treatise on Probability outlined a clear distinction between 2 kinds of probablilities: a subjective and an objective probability. Let me explain why this distinction is important today. |

I have decided to give my Chairman’s speech after, not before tonight’s guest for a number of reasons. First, I believe that Mr. Stiprais, Head of the Chancery of the President, and no one else is best suited to explain the reasons for the President’s abscence. Secondly, I also think that we as members of the BCCL have a lot to worry about in the current situation. There is a sense that Latvia is on the verge of turbulent times that might affect everyone. Hence, I would like to share with you my thoughts about the role of our organization.

| Anita Kalēja at the BCCL Annual General Meeting |
 |
| My report will be mostly positive because I am full of optimism about the future of the BCCL. In the last year we have gone through many changes – the staff of the chamber has changed a few times, the chamber has started to implement its new strategy of getting more closely engaged with local businesses and the community at large, we are starting to attract a new kind of membership. |

| Anita Kalçja at the Corporate Social Responsibility Dinner at La Boheme Restaurant |
 |
I would like to confess that I was slightly worried about tonight’s dinner. Firstly, it is our last dinner before the AGM, and hence also my last opportunity to address directly our members before my first year as Chairperson of the BCCL expires. Secondly, the topic for the dinner - Corporate Social Responsibility - is not well understood in Latvia.

I would like to firstly express my gratitude to all of our members who took part in the preparations for the Queen’s visit. It was, I trust, a memorable and moving event for many of us, and, if I may express my personal opinion, we saw not only the rituals and traditions associated with the Queen, but also a human being behind the public persona - behind the excitement about receptions, cars, ceremonial gowns, cocktail dresses and bow ties we saw a wise and very considerate woman.

| Anita Kaleja at the BCCL Monthly Dinner "Risk in Your Business is Your Business - Take it Seriously!" |
 |
I have great pleasure to present to you this evening’s speaker Mr. Bill Gloyn. It is sometimes difficult to find a proper way of describing unique accomplishments in the world of insurance. It cannot be done in the industry vocabulary - a world of its own where people actually end up making sense of most bizarre expressions such as, to start with, ‘statistical average’, ‘prevailing probable maximum loss estimate’, ‘insurance against such things as spontanious combustion’, etc.

Today our guest speaker is Mr. Ojars Kalnins, Director of Latvian Institute and former Ambassador to the USA and Mexico. We are proud to have him as our speaker today, especially in view of his accomplishments in making, what can be called ‘Latvian culture’, into a commodity.
