"Due to the change of socio-economic systems all over the world measures applied for reviving of national economies that were working previously may no longer be applicable and may not deliver the desired outcomes. Economic and financial crisis that has hit the Republic of Latvia if of unprecedented strength, hence wise and timely action needs to be taken to improve the development prospects of Latvia and minimise the damage caused to the national economy. To ensure economic revival of Latvia decisive action needs to be taken, bearing in mind the changing global environment and understanding trends that will affect it in the foreseeable future. A new approach to structuring the tasks to be undertaken in facilitating economic recovery shall be implemented, which would ensure efficiency of use of state budget resources and increasing of state budget revenues. I believe that there is scope for increasing efficiency of state budget as well as for increasing revenues in state budget. The main task to be fulfilled in order to meet the objectives of economic recovery and achieve further economic growth is reforming of the public administration and streamlining its functions."
