CSR and Charity committee
In 2008 BCCL’s CSR committee engaged in several activities jointly with BCCL staff and other committees.
In summer 2008 we started a process to promote corporate responsibility at the BCCL, not only to show our commitment to doing so, but also to help us gain new insights on BCCL’s relationships with our stakeholders. In two fantastic and productive brainstorming sessions facilitated by BCCL member Hauska & Partner International Communications, BCCL’s Board and staff discussed and analyzed in depth BCCL’s commitments and the added value that BCCL can bring to its members.
Another task of the CSR Committee in 2008 was to bring to our members the knowledge and expertise on various aspects of CSR from both the public and private sectors. The first effort was a meeting with the New Economics Foundation in London (NEF) during the BCCL’s annual UK trip. NEF is one of the most prominent voices advocating improvement in the quality of life by promoting innovative solutions that challenge mainstream thinking on economic, environmental and social issues.
In 2008 we started to work with the two charities that BCCL decided to support – “Dzîvesprieks” from Tukums, which works with orphan youth from social risk groups (www.dzivesprieks.lv ) and “Cerîbu spârni” (www.ceribusparni.lv ) from Sigulda, which supports disabled children and their families. Your generous donations at the 2009 Burns Night to these worthy causes were greatly appreciated, and we encourage BCCL’s members to support both organizations throughout 2009 and 2010.
